Kiss Me in the Rain
In the dense spruce forests of Northern Alberta, an environmentalist and an archeologist are about to uncover the wrongs of the past and the pleasures of the here and now...
Savannah McIntyre is estranged from her family, haunted by the destruction that her father's development business has visited upon the landscape that she loves. So when a family wedding calls her home, the hope of reconnecting with her dad surfaces, putting her directly in the path of Gabe Tanner, an archeologist on her father's payroll. Gabe is estranged from his own father, and in him Savannah senses a man of immense compassion with a deep connection to the land. Navigating their mutual attraction on a remote and dangerous archaeological survey proves difficult, given their differences in ideology, but Savannah and Gabe are about to find out that love can thrive in any landscape.

Isobelle Cody, or Elle as her friends call her, loves her job as an archaeologist in Canada. Working in remote landscapes suits her completely, but her irrational fear of airplanes has her beyond grounded. She decides backup is in order and asks for Divine help. As an afterthought, she throws in a request to meet her Mr. Perfect. It couldn’t hurt.
The Goddess, Gaia, assigns Bodin. He is a thousand year old warrior, now angel-in-training, who just happens to not believe in love. Grumpy and usually a divine pain, Bodin has met his match with the beautiful archaeologist and finds himself under the healing power of love for the first time. The two explore their budding attraction working in the wild northern forests. When Bodin’s past threatens their future, will love come too late or just in time for forever?

What I'm Working On
FICTION (as Sarah Kades): I'm currently working on a five book series, The Tanner Family. It is the adult children of divorced parents as each go through there own path to healing and finding love. They're a rowdy bunch; Gabe is a former CSIS intelligence agent, turned archaeologist, Colt is a bull rider, Becca is opening her own dude ranch B&B, Tucker is a detective and closet gourmet chef, and Tanner is a west coast fishing guide that just found out he has four half-siblings. Nature, adventure and love, it's what I love to write about and this series is providing a great canvas to explore and play with those themes. Sign up for my reader group above to receive updates.
This series took a pause as I wrote a non-fiction book (see below), but am back at it and seriously loving getting back to these characters. I missed them.
NON-FICTION (as Sarah Graham): I collaborated with CPS homicide detective Dave Sweet on our first non-fiction book, Unconventional Classroom: Life Lessons from a Veteran Homicide Detective. It is an unconventional police memoir taking readers on a ride-along like no other. Poignant truths about life, death, and how we can live and work together, are shared through this gripping memoir of universal life lessons. Humour and compassion play as vivid a role as danger and grit in this unique perspective.
Unconventional Classroom is Detective Dave Sweet's sharing his hard-earned life lessons with those on the other side of the yellow tape. From going undercover to infiltrate drug rings, to piecing together criminal hierarchies, to investigating gruesome murder scenes, Detective Sweet shares the traumas, triumphs and tragedies of his twenty-year career in law enforcement. But he also reveals the human side of policing: meeting people on the worst day of their lives, helping them pick up the pieces, bringing resolution to victims and their families, and also the toll it takes on an officer. Written with Sweet’s trademark honesty, Unconventional Classroom is a frank look at how one homicide detective faces the unimaginable every day.
The very nature of the work Dave does conditions a person to the job. Writing a book to be consumed by an audience wider than those in law enforcement, while having nearly two decades of officer conditioning, meant there was a significant chance some of those messages might be lost in either police-speak or with a modified social filter, neither serving the reader. That’s where I came in. My background has given me experience communicating both sensitive and technically-specific information, often within the context of contrasting world views, to varying audiences.
It has been an incredible project and we're excited for the next steps, enter super rad agent and publishing house. Check out unconventionalclassroom.ca for more details. We think it's pretty cool. Sign up below if you would like to be emailed release information when it is available.
